Art of Darkness is a heterodox arts and culture podcast about the dark side of creativity. As such, we periodically touch on sensitive and controversial topics that may make some listeners uncomfortable.
Sometimes, we also make jokes. We laugh so we don’t cry. If you can’t take a joke, this podcast might not be for you.
We personally and explicitly disavow bigotry, extremism, and hatred of all sorts, both in and outside the sphere of the arts. This podcast is a project inspired by the artists we cover, warts and all. Descriptions and coverage are not endorsements. We’ve covered artists across the political, ethnic, and social spectrum – left, right, center, and simply beyond (where the good stuff is). We also play host to a diverse range of Dark Room guests from across the political spectrum, who generously help us better contextualize the artists we’ve covered. No one viewpoint or political slant deserves hegemony over the arts and culture, and we welcome strong opinions and honest discussions at the edge of the discourse.
We will continue to create Art of Darkness with open minds and hearts as we pursue our mission to give you the best arts biography podcast in the world.
Chat Rules
We host a couple of chat rooms, and do our best to moderate these and keep the conversations on track. We are not, however, professional social media moderators and don’t expect to be held responsible for what our guests and audience says or does across the Internet. The Internet is a big place. If you have a problem with somebody, take it up with them directly. If you have a concern you’d like to take up with us, we can be reached at artofdarkpod@gmail.com.

Here are the rules of the road for the chat.
1. No fedposting. If there’s any doubt, don’t post it. If you’re a fan of the podcast, understand these chat rooms exist “on brand” for the show, and post accordingly. We live in hysterical times where speech is regularly taken out of context. Simply be smart about what you post, and spare us anything that might be perceived as “extremism.”
2. No ad hominem. Stay civil. You can always take it to DMs. Anything that gets personal scores a mute then a block.
3. The Art of Darkness chats are devoted to a heterodox arts and culture podcast, and fancy pens. We try to stay on topic as much as possible. Incendiary links, abusive language, provocation, racial topics, bigotry, general malice, and open extremism will be muted and/or booted. We give one warning, then a mute.
4. Because something is posted in one of our chat rooms does not mean we endorse it. We have a one strike zero tolerance policy for anything that could be misconstrued as a violation of the above guide: first offense is a mute, second is a ban. We do our best to moderate these chat rooms toward civility and a focus on topics pertaining to the podcast. Any concerns can be sent to artofdarkpod@gmail.com.
5. Access to either Telegram or Discord is a privilege. Don’t take it personally if we kick you. If it happens, it’s for a reason. We cannot be held responsible for what’s posted in these chats, and we want to keep moderation to a minimum. Be an adult.
